We are resending our First Edition, because it was brought to our attention that it was not received by everyone on our mailing list.  We apologize if you receive it twice.

Welcome To Living Orderly...

I would like to introduce you to our first edition of Living Orderly, Living Well, which is the monthly newsletter for Living Orderly, LLC. Living Orderly, LLC is a new professional organizing company servicing the Tampa Bay area. The company is owned and operated by me, Jill Ferguson, and I am assisted by my sister, Ginger Rivera. Some of you know both of us from Video News Clip, the company I owned and operated for twenty years. It has been a little over two years since the sale of Video News Clip, and now I am back doing something I love, organizing! I have really always been an organizer working for myself, my family, and my friends. I am excited about being a professional organizer because I know what kind of impact organization can have on your life. The time and energy you save alone is so worth it, not to mention the amount of stress you can actually relieve.

Now many of you will know Ginger as your Southern Living At Home representative. Ginger will tell you that she has learned to be organized from trying to juggle her family, home, work, and the time she volunteers. Ginger and I are just fourteen months apart, so we grew up together in the same house with the same parents but one of us was organized from very early on and the other learned to be organized as an adult. Now, that may say to you that some people are born with the organizing gene, but it definitely tells you that organization is a learned skill. A skill that anyone with the desire to be in better control of their life can learn!

In each edition of Living Orderly, Living Well, we will give you ideas and tips that will help you bring order to your life.

Why Hire A Professional Organizer?

Have you said to yourself, “I want to get organized, or I’ve tried to get organized”, but then you always find other things to do or your organization attempts only last a short time? If either one of these things sounds familiar then hiring a professional organizer (PO) may be for you.

Let’s face it, there is always something better that you would rather be doing than organizing. A professional organizer will keep you accountable to the task at hand, and it will be more fun to work with someone. With a PO you will get a fresh perspective on your surroundings. A PO can also help assess your situation and come up with a plan of attack rather than just attacking the situation. A Professional Organizer will help to create systems for organization and teach you organizational principles while you work that will help you maintain your new organized space.

The National Association of Professional Organizers describes a professional organizer as someone who helps individuals and businesses take control of their surroundings, their time, their paper, and their systems for life. If you have been feeling like you are out of control of the things around you and you’ve been unable to get them in order yourself, then it is time to be proactive and call a professional organizer.

Time To Tackle Your Clutter

Clutter tends to accumulate most every place that we land — our desk, countertops, shelves, closets, even on our computer desktops. Some of us are worse than others, but most of us can probably admit to having clutter somewhere. It is possible, though, to have a clutter free life, if we are willing to take the time to form some new habits. Below are a few things to do that will get you started with de-cluttering your surroundings.
It is possible, though, to have a clutter free life, if we are willing to take the time to form some new habits. Below are a few things to do that will get you started with de-cluttering your surroundings.

Go through your house room to room with a basket and pick up the things that belong in other places in your home. As your basket becomes full, go put the things where they belong. Now in this process you may also find things that go in the trash/recycle, can be given away, or need to be returned to someone else. You need to take the appropriate action for those things as well. Use the tip on the front page of this newsletter for the things to be given away. You may want to go ahead and put the things that need to be returned in your car. Break it up into chunks of time that are manageable to you depending on the amount of clutter you have in your rooms. Once you have freed the rooms of the clutter then make this routine a habit either weekly or monthly. If you have kids, get them involved because chances are a lot of the clutter belongs to them.

To stop clutter from coming in, make it a habit that when you bring something new into your home you will get rid of one or more of your belongings. Try looking at the rooms in your home as if you
are seeing them for the first time. Make sure that what you are looking at are things that you like and enjoy. Chances are that you have been adding to your décor without really looking at the things that need to be retired. Just remember it may be time for you to pass them on for someone else to enjoy.

Tip To Living Orderly

Keep a donation box/bag somewhere in your house where you have easy access to it.  As you come across things in your home or closet that you no longer use, need, or wear put them in the box.  You will find it easier to give up items when you have an immediate place to store them.  Schedule a time each month that you will take the box to a charity location.

Tip To Living Well

The month of May was American Stroke Month. During this month of awareness, I learned that on average one stroke occurs every 40 seconds and every 3-4 minutes someone dies of a stroke. That statistic is startling, but I also learned how we can all play a role in ensuring future victims of stroke have the best chance for recovery. If stroke symptoms are recognized quickly, it can greatly increase the odds of survival and recovery of a stroke victim.  The five stroke symptoms to look for are:
1. Walk – Is their balance off?
2. Talk– Is their speech slurred or face droopy?
3. Reach – Is one side weak or numb?
4. See – Is their vision all or partly lost?
5. Feel– Is their headache severe?
If you see just one of these symptoms, even if it goes away, do not wait- call 9-1-1 immediately! For more information, visit www.giveme5forstroke.org.
